Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944), a Russian-born painter and art theorist, is one of the great masters of abstract art. He began his professional career in law, but gave it up to move to Munich and pursue his dream of becoming an artist. Fauvism influenced his earlier paintings, such as Dancers, which featured landscapes and other recognizable scenery. However, he eventually found his passion in abstract art. In 1913, Kandinsky began creating some of his first abstract paintings, including Komposition VII, which according to Kandinsky, was his most complex artwork. His inspirations came from spirituality, color and sound. He loved music and sought to create visual representations of this art form with symbolism and object-free figures.
