The Dutch post-impressionist painter painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890) was virtually unknown during his lifetime. Three uncles and one brother were art dealers, while other family members held positions in the church. Van Gogh was an also an art dealer for a short period of time, but later made efforts to become pastor. He began drawing in his early years and took up painting in his late twenties. His early paintings were dark, but he later learned to use vivid colors to create magnificent art prints. While studying color theory, one of his inspirations was Peter Paul Rubens. Many of his best-known works were completed during the last two years of his life, such as the art print "The Starry Night" and floral art print "Irises in the Garden in Saint Remy". Van Gogh is also famous for his sunflowers art prints and "Still Life: Vase with Twelve Sunflowers". Van Gogh painted a variety of self portraits with one of them being, "Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear". This particular piece was painted when Van Gogh was suffering from serious mental illness. He had cut his ear off. Our website, www.bandagedear.com, was named after this art print. The art works our members like the most, available as art prints, posters and framed prints: 1.
