Tamara de Lempicka (1898 - 1980), an Art Deco artist famous for her prints and posters of portraits and nudes, was born in Moscow to a prominent family. During the Russian Revolution, she fled Russia with her husband and family. They eventually ended up in Paris, which is where she gave birth to her daughter, Kizette. During the 1920s in Paris, she interacted with the aristocracy and other socialites, but still maintained a quasi-bohemian lifestyle, which is how she met Pablo Picasso. She was well-known for her flashy lifestyle and scandalous affairs, with both men and women, which eventually led to her divorce. Before World War II, Lempicka remarried Baron Raoul Kuffner and moved to the United States. Her title and money elevated her social status and she quickly became the favorite artist of the Hollywood Stars. Even today, some of Hollywood's most famous residents are avid collectors of Lempicka's original paintings, such as Madonna, Jack Nicholson and Barbra Streisand.
