Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898 - 1972), more commonly known as M.C. Escher, was a Dutch artist famous for his lithographs and woodcuts of geometric distortions and mathematical optical illusions. M.C. Escher art prints and posters are widely popular because of the whimsical patterns and captivating techniques used to create relationships among shapes, figures, dimension and space. Although he did poorly in school and was never professionally trained in math, his talent as an artist was seen early on through his drawings. When he was a young man, Escher traveled to Italy and fell in love with the Italian countryside. The beautiful scenery provided inspiration for his early works, which included sketches of landscapes. Although he lived in Italy for a good portion of his life, he eventually moved to Belgium and back to the Netherlands in 1941. He stayed in the Netherlands for the remainder of his life. During this time, Escher created some of his most famous artworks, which include these prints and posters Drawing Hands, Relativity, Hand with Sphere and Bond of Union. An art print or poster by M.C.
