Keith Haring (1958 - 1990) was an American Pop Art artist who started his career in graphic design, but found his passion in drawing and painting. He moved from Pennsylvania to New York City, where he studied at the School of Visual Arts and became well-known for his chalk drawings in New York subways. However, he was soon exhibiting at world-renowned galleries around the world and being commissioned for high profile jobs. During his short, yet influential career, Haring became friends with some of the most prominent artists of his time, such as Madonna, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. His use of bright, primary colors and well-defined lines depicted images of love, unity, war, death and birth with inspirational messages. Some of artworks also conveyed strong political themes. Later in life, Haring was diagnosed with AIDS. In 1989, the Keith Haring Foundation was founded to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organizations. Haring created paintings to promote AIDS awareness and activism. Haring was dedicated to making his paintings and drawings available to the world. Today, you can purchase Keith Haring art prints to decorate your home. Some of his most famous artworks include: Mother and Child, Wedding Invitation and Best Buddies.
