Jackson Pollock (1912 - 1956), a major contributor to the abstract expressionist movement. He is credited with creating a revolutionary new way to paint, which was influenced by Mexican muralists and surrealist automatism. As a young artist, Pollock married Lee Krasner, a fellow painter. Together, they and moved into a home in New York with a nearby barn, which Pollock used as a studio. It was in this studio where he perfected his dripping and pouring techniques. He could apply paint from any direction to create art with the movement of his body, rather than just brushstrokes from his wrist. In 2000, Pollock's life was depicted in a movie starring Ed Harris and Marica Gay Harden, who both won Academy Awards for their roles in the movie. Pollock's most popular art prints and posters come from his paintings created between 1947 and 1950. Some of these paintings include: Alchemy, Lucifer and Convergence. This period is known as the "drip period". At one point during this period, Pollock decided to number his paintings instead of naming them. He didn't want viewers to have a preconceived notion about the subject matter. Choose a beautiful Pollock art print or poster, such as Number 18 art print or Number 14 art print, which are perfect for modern décors.
