Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt (1862 - 1918) is said to have lived a lifestyle parallel to that of his paintings: one devoted to the arousal of passion and desire. Never married or committed to any one woman, Klimt acquired several lovers, often at the same time and many, the subjects of his art prints and posters. Gustav Klimt prints were considered erotic and taboo, demanding heavy criticisms from Victorian conservatives. This Kiss art print by Klimt for example is vividly erotic, its subject depicting a couple enlaced and kissing tenderly. Other paintings of Gustav Klimt that raised a moral eyebrow included Goldfish Art Print by Klimt famous not only for its kiss-my-bottom pose, which some argue was Klimt's message in the piece, and this Hygeia Art Print, whose upraised chin and firm gaze was viewed as scornful. Despite flagrant criticisms of his work, Klimt became the favorite portraitist among women. Oddly enough, 54 of his 230 paintings were landscapes based on the work of impressionists (many are available as Klimt prints and Klimt posters on this site). It was only after his death in 1918 that Klimt's process of placing women on canvas was revealed: first, he painted them nude, and then he brushed on their clothing. The art works our members like the most, available as art prints, posters and framed prints: 1. Three Ages of Woman - Mother and Child, c.1905 (detail), 2. The Kiss, c.1908 (detail), 3. The Dancer, c.1918 (detail), 4. The Kiss, c.1908, 5. Lady with Fan, c.1917.
