Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907 - 1954) produced artwork laced with passion and pain, a canvas mirror of her lifelong health problems and turbulent marriages to Mexican muralist Diego Rivera (Diego Rivera art prints and posters). During her lifetime, Kahlo brushed 143 paintings, of which several self-portraits available on this site as art prints and posters. Who was Frida Kahlo? Kahlo was known as the tequila-slamming, dirty-joke-telling artist who often hosted lavish dinner parties in her bohemian barrio. Her off-and-on marriage to Rivera withstood infidelities, divorce, and career pressures. Kahlo once said that she suffered two grave accidents in her life: one in which a streetcar knocked her down, the other was Rivera. Exotic animals including parrots, monkeys and deer roamed freely about the grounds of Kahlo's home, and are included in the print Self-Portrait with Monkey, 1938. It was said that she turned to animals for comfort because of the absence of children in her life. Shortly after Kahlo's divorce from Rivera, the Frida Kahlo art print Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair, 1940 was a brushed with intense, vibrant colors reflecting her bitter feelings of estrangement. Today Kahlo's paintings produce more profit than any other female artist in history. The art works our members like the most, available as art prints, posters and framed prints: 1. Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair, 1940, 2. Self-Portrait with Monkey and Parrot, 1942, 3. Self-Portrait with Monkey, 1938, 4. Self-Portrait Dedicated to Leon Trotsky, 1937.
