Claude Monet (1840 - 1926), originally Oscar Claude Monet, was born in Paris, France. Monet is the most well-known artist of the French impressionist style, which name was derived from his painting, Impression Sunrise. During his time in Paris, Monet befriended many painters, including fellow impressionist Edouard Manet (prints and posters by Edouard Manet). In 1861, Monet joined the army, but left after two years to go to art school. Unimpressed with traditional art teachings, Monet helped develop a new style of painting along with Pierre-Auguste Renoir (prints and posters by Pierre-Auguste Renoir) and other artists who later became famous for the impressionism movement. Monet married Camille Doncieux, who was an inspiration for many of his paintings, such as Women in the Garden. After giving birth to two children, Jean and Michel, Camille passed away of tuberculosis. He remarried Alice Hoschedé, who already had six children. Monet's large family moved to a house at Giverny. His new residence had a lovely garden, which was used as the setting for some of his most famous paintings, including many Monet prints and posters with Water Lilies and this Japanese Bridge print. These paintings are popular Monet prints and posters, which are top sellers around the world. In his later years, Monet developed cataracts, which affected his paintings. His artworks painted while being afflicted with cataracts have a reddish hue, which is common among individuals with the vision-impairing condition. The art works our members like the most, available as art prints, posters and framed prints: 1. Water Lily Pond, 2. Madame Monet and Her Son, 3. Les Coquelicots, 4. Fields in Spring, 5. Argenteuil.
